This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. -1 John 5: 14-15 (NASB)
As believers in Christ (verse 12) we can approach God with our requests. Some requests I have petitioned to the Lord have been off and on for years pertaining to certain people or situations and some recent prayers which are still awaiting answers. The length of our wait for the outcome of our prayers may happen quickly or we may not see the outcome while we are on this earth. May God’s will be done in earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)
My daughter has had many illnesses and life challenges while also living in the world of autism. She has been fervently asking for prayer so we pray together along with knowing others are praying for her. Today, we had another talk about healing, and as I was listening to her share what the Lord told her, it lined up with what the Lord placed in my heart. Both of us had the same word from the Lord; I knew for sure God’s Holy Spirit was speaking to her and through her and that we were in line with His will. In our anticipation, we have seen small improvements in her health. We are learning that even when things are moving slowly, God is still moving and hearing us.
Maybe you are in a situation where you don’t think God hears you, or you are discouraged because you are still waiting for answers to your prayers. God’s timing and His ways are not ours, but we have assurance from Him that we have the requests we have asked from Him, according to His will.
Heavenly Father thank You for Your Spirit that counsels us and assures us in Your word. You can do the impossible according to Your will. May our hearts be cleansed before You and instill within us Your truth as we trust You more deeply.
