“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything, worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” - Philippians 4:8 (NASB)
Have you ever had a wound so deep you can’t seem to fathom the pain? Maybe you have several wounds and any movement hurts. Doctors give us medication to dull the pain. What about emotional pain? What do we do with pain so deep that each time we move the pain follows? We may self-medicate with drugs, alcohol, keep busy, blame others…and the list goes on. Anything to keep from thinking about it or hurting.
I have been there, stuck in my losses, my pain, and brokenness to where I could not see any pieces to pick up. When I pondered the above scripture, at times I struggled to find the good.
Understanding our brokenness is Christ’s specialty, He knows how to put us back together and make us new for His purpose and His pleasure. I started with that thought and asked the Lord to show me how to see beyond my limited vision. He did the work and reminded me that His grace is sufficient. He is close to the brokenhearted. I asked for the grace to have joy and peace. It happened supernaturally. I felt a smile in my soul that I could not explain and each day as I sought Him, He gave me the strength to accomplish more, to want to step forward into the unknown, knowing He is with me.
“He has saved us and called us into a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time…” -2 Timothy 1:9 (NIV)
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” - Psalm 34:18 (NLT)
Father, You are worthy and provide healing with Your grace. May we focus on Your goodness and love for us so that we may see You, in the “whatever”, even when we are broken.
